The danger with any prediction is to try and figure out which Sharks team shows up.

He was pretty good last year. He was leading the league in points midway through the 3rd round

STL is fast and they can forecheck with the best of them, but if we can make life on their forwards early and often we have a chance.
That being said, ST. Louis has not been playing as strong lately, so hopefully that and the lack of experience will give the Sharks a chance. Of course, the Sharks have to show up and care about every shift and Niemi has to be on top of his game.

I'm also glad we are facing a legitimate threat in the first round. The last two years we faced teams that we didn't take seriously and had to beat them in 6 instead of trying for a 4 game sweep. Perhaps St. Louis will keep them on their toes. If not we'll get rolled in 4 or 5 games.

Since STL is an inexperienced team I think if we can win atleast one in St.Louis we can knock the wind right out of their sails and hopefully win both at the tank.

If St.Louis wins the first two at home and gets some confidence I think we are done for

62% of the Blues roster has played 4 playoff games or less. Not that it matters all that much, but still it could potentially be a factor

St. Louis is a good team with one of the league's best coaches. Even if we get swept I am happy we made the playoffs. I would have been really bummed out if we missed

If we lose, I'd hope we at least played them tough. Though I am glad we made the playoffs, and I would rather be swept than miss. Keep our 2nd best playoff streak going.

The Blues forecheck like no other team and force turnovers. Our D has not been the best at holding the puck so the Sharks will need to buckle down and stop playing lazy. Guard the puck, make a good first pass out of the zone, quickly. No more sloppy and blind outlet passes up the middle. Just pass it to the forward in position or chip it out of the zone. The Sharks are strong on face-offs while the Blues are weaker in that area, so you can't be too worried about icing the puck.
Watching the Sharks back when we first picked up Joe Thornton, the experience mattered. We had plenty of talent but little experience.
I think the Blues experience on D is their achilles heel. The Blues top defense has Pietrangelo, Jackman and Shattenkirk. We have Boyle, Burns and Vlasic. That's a huge difference in playoff games played and could make the difference if they can get taken off their game.

I respect you as a Sharks fan and usually you make a lot of excellent points here but what you are saying right now is simply pathetic. Pathetic and ridiculous. I sure hope Sharks players and coaches aren't thinking the same thing as you right now.

I agree. The Sharks need to focus on winning their next game, not the series but just the next game. How do they solve the St. Louis Goaltenders? How can we stop the forwards in the Neutral zone? How will Hitchcock coach against them?

You are the one who has been saying the Sharks have no chance because they are a 7th seed. I hope the Sharks aren't thinking that.

I think the Sharks have a good chance at beating the inexperienced Blues and I think anything can happen.

I can see how you would take my statement that way and don't blame you for thinking that way. I will try to explain myself a little.

I am not happy we haven't won a Cup so far. I am not happy with the subpar season we've had. I am not happy that in some ways we don't match up well against the Blues.

I would love to win. I want to win. I will yell and scream at every loss and even every goal against.

Consider the last two seasons. We were better teams than our first and second round opponents. I would have been pissed had we lost to them. In the third round we lost decisively to what I think were better teams.

Compare that outcome to 2009 when we lost to a team that was much much worse than us. In comparison I preferred the recent outcomes. But I still would have much rather we had gone all the way. And if St. Louis ends up proving they are a better team than I won't be as mad as I have been in the past.

First off, I never said the Sharks have no chance if they finish 7th. I said that their chances of winning the Cup are extremely slim. However it doesn't mean that I won't be watching and rooting and believing. Also it doesn't mean that I will be happy with being swept in the first round.

I meant it more like I am happy we made the playoffs and at least had a shot at it. You were right to call me out though. My bad.

No worries and you don't need to apologize for your opinion. It's just that I was baffled by your initial statement, that's all.

It's like the good old days. People picking the Sharks as an "upset" in the first round.

My how things can change in a single season.

Nitpicking here, but it's actually his second worst as a Shark

I disagree. He is so much more of a complete center now. Faceoffs, neutral zone play, defensive play, a leader in the league in take aways, etc... We know what he can do offensively, look at his numbers under Ron Wilson, when he got matched up against the other teams 3rd and 4th lines. Now he plays against the other teams top lines and has done an excellent job as a shut down center.
